My Vision for Our Next Four Years in the County of Brant

When values, words, and actions align, leadership is authentic and genuine.

My vision for the County of Brant’s next four years is intended to get us back on track because the municipality is at a turning point that must be carefully managed. As we navigate today’s economic, growth, and construction realities, we cannot lose our rural and agricultural roots. Through proper planning, better management, and equitable reinvestment across the County, I know that we will be prepared for a more sustainable future.

Restoring Public Confidence in Municipal Government

There’s a clear disconnect between community engagement and Council decisions, so restoring public confidence begins with listening to residents and taxpayers. We need better governance that prioritizes transparency, consultation, and integrity, and that requires a Mayor and Council who are always committed to these values above all else.

As your Mayor, you can trust that I will:

  • Provide honest, informed information to all stakeholders in a timely manner
  • Facilitate a cohesive Council dynamic that leads by example, respecting diverse and divergent ideas, opinions, and approaches
  • Help align municipal decisions, services, and priorities with public engagement results to the fullest extent possible

Returning the County to a Stable Financial Position

With property taxes and municipal user fees continuing to rise, County ratepayers are rightly asking whether they are receiving value for their spend. It’s fair to observe this when recent years have been marked by challenging economic circumstances affecting many residents, businesses, and farms, who have already been forced to choose between “needs” and wants.” Council must learn to do the same and that begins with a Mayor who respects that the property tax levy is funded by real people within our community.

As your Mayor, you can trust that I will:

  • Guide County management in the responsible, efficient use of all municipal resources
  • Ensure that strategic and financial decisions are made with a view to both the short-term and long-term, balancing current and future needs
  • Prioritize construction management, maintaining existing infrastructure, and limit discretionary spending on exploratory reports, conference travel, and hospitality expenses
  • Recommend strategies for ensuring local service providers, suppliers, and contractors can remain competitive in municipal procurement, directly reinvesting public funds in our community
  • Caution against proceeding with discretionary capital projects funded primarily by debt, unrealized development charges, and anticipated grants
  • Remain dynamic as provincial policies affecting County finances change, allowing the County to adapt rather than react

Focusing on the Issues that Matter Most Closest to Home

Municipal government is truly local because the County provides the infrastructure, services, and programs that affect us daily. Growth needs to be strategic and sustainable, balancing reinvestment across all corners of the County because we must focus on what brings us together for the future, rather than falling into familiar patterns of divisive thinking. With a Mayor and Council committed to putting our communities first and balancing priorities across the County, we will be stronger and more sustainable for what lies ahead.

As your Mayor, you can trust that I will:

  • Prioritize outcomes that have the broadest benefit to residents, businesses, and farms across the County
  • Ensure County decisions consider the environmental, heritage, cultural, and sustainability of the choices we make today so they stand up for tomorrow
  • Explore how Brant can leverage its relationships with service clubs, community organizations, neighbouring municipalities, and higher levels of government as partners, while protecting the County’s best interests
  • Restore funding to the Community Grants program, benefiting local groups, leagues, events, and activities that need this investment most
  • Support our first responders in ways that improve community safety, response times, and presence across the County
  • Ensure economic development strategies priorities the sustainability and retention of County employers and businesses, not just the recruitment of new ones

The Next Steps

My vision is informed by meaningful time spent listening to and reflecting on the real conversations that have taken place across the County in the months leading up to the election. I look forward to spending the months ahead laying out the roadmap I’ll use to bring this vision to reality as your next Mayor of the County of Brant.
